Wayne from Impact Technical first approached me with the idea of shooting some of his fireworks displays at a wedding fair around a year ago. I’d actually shot a couple of weddings that Impact had been booked for, so witnessed first hand what a well choreographed fireworks display could bring to a wedding day. I’ve shot fireworks before, they are hard to shoot at the best of times, but I was more than up for the challenge!

One rainy October afternoon myself, Wayne and his wife Catherine finally met up to discuss the project. It was clear what they wanted – a series of showreels that showcased their amazing fireworks displays shot at various popular wedding venues around the north east. But as we talked it became clear that they wanted something else, something more than just a firework display showreel – they wanted something creative, something different.

I studied TV & Film production, and actively work as a Director of Photography in short films, music videos, and various other creative projects. I set up my wedding video production company DS Media to try and bring some of my film-making skills to the wedding industry, and to try to inject some creative flair into wedding videography.

This combination of a background in film, plus a knowledge of the wedding industry put me in an ideal position to create something truly special for Impact.

The concept was simple but clear; A short promotional video, staged and shot like a short film, that begins with a newly married couples first dance, and at the point where the dance would end, we would follow them as they make their way outside to be greeted with a stunning fireworks display.

The message? When your wedding day draws to an end, Impact have the ability to add to, and prolong, the magic of your day, in a stunning and memorable way.

After a solid week of editing, fine tuning the cuts so the visuals worked seamlessly with the music and selecting footage from various Impact wedding fireworks displays to use in the finale, the video was finally complete.

We set out to create a video that was creatively interesting, visually engaging, and that would not only fulfill its purpose to showcase Impact’s work, but that could stand on its own as a piece of creative video.

Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved I believe we have done just that! I am proud to be a part of this project and feel that we have created something truly special.
